During the week of July 6-9 Emma got a chance to be a Junior Lifeguard through the guard start program. Each day she had to be at the pool from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. She would have instruction in the morning and then take guard shifts during the open swim time. She really enjoyed the program. Each day when I would pick her up she would share all of the stuff she was learning. She learned how to roll someone over that was face down in the water, how to identify the 3 types of drowning and how to help the people drowning, and learned about CPR.I had been in the guard start program and I was telling her about an activity that we did where we had to jump in the deep end with our clothes on (swim suit under) and then take off our jeans and try to fill the legs with air to use as a flotation device. Turns out, Emma's program did that too, but usually only talked about it. Emma really wanted to try it, so she took jeans with her one day. She was about to jump in, but the instructor pushed her in (like she was falling from a boat), she then got her jeans off and did get a little air in the legs. She said it was so hard, but she was really excited that she did it. It was a great week for her and she really wants to do it again.

What a great program and great things to be learning.
She is such a great swimmer. I think she could be a great lifeguard in a couple of years.
What a cool thing to do!
What a fun thing for her to do this summer.
It is so cool that the pool is doing programs like these! Way to go Emma!
