Emma's camp experience - As told by Emma

Every morning our counselor would go to a meeting and then she would come back around 7:30 am and turn the light on and say, "time to wake up". Then we would get up and take showers or whatever. Eight o'clock was breakfast. We had our our little house. There was a toilet and shower and 4 girls in our cabin. We got mostly cold water because we shared the hot water with the older girls cabin and they always took the hot water. At morning chapel our cabin would get checked for how clean it was. Our cabin won once. It could have been 3 times, but we had things that were forgotten.

In the morning we had chapel and then we had a chapel in the evening. Chapel was usually a lesson. We learned about fears and how God stands between you and your fear. We played a lot of music. Some of the boys would go on the stage and sang "You are the Devil and the Devil is Bad". We would scream and yell after the boys like we where fans. We also sang "Pharoah, Pharoah, let my people go" and "Father, Abraham".

We got to swim in the afternoon. The camp had a heated pool. After swimmingI usually took a shower because I would feel gross.

We did different games in the afternoon. One time we had a scavenger hunt. There was a 7th and 8th grader that planned the hunt. We got 5 puzzle pieces with clues and we had to find the pieces. We did another scavenger hunt where we were looking for things to take pictures of. One of the counselors had to jump in the pool with all of his clothes on and we took a picture of him.

We did crafts also. I made soap, a treasure box, and used some clay. We also planted some grass in a pot. We learned that if you plant a seed, like God planting your purpose in you and as you grow up it becomes a flower as you find your purpose.

We played hide and seek in the dark. I usually would hide with someone. But one time I was it, I had a hard time getting anyone. Another night we had a night swim, but I didn't swim very long because it was cold. On Thursday night we had a campfire. We roasted marshmallows there. On our way to the campfire, we climbed a really big rock. Our pastor is afraid of heights but she climbed it anyway. We then went to the pool to pray since we had the most fun there. As soon as the pastor said "amen", two of the girls pushed all of the middle schoolers into the pool even though they had all of their clothes on.

Bedtime was usually 11:00pm. I was really tired. I was given the quietest award. I don't really know but maybe because I was pretty quiet. I had a great time at camp and I would go again.

Emma, I am so glad you had a great time at camp, I'm proud of you too. When I was your age I was always too scared to go to camp...espcially because I would have to be away from my mom and dad. So, I went to camp as a cabin leader (counselor) for many years...with Mr. Hughes. It sounds like you learned some good lessons about the Lord and how He works in your life too! THanks for sharing your experience =0)

Ahhhh Michelle, your comment about the pears and applesauce made me laugh....I think I am still tired, two days later, after all that work!

I am proud of you - I only went to summer camp once and cried every night because I was homesick. I'm glad you are much braver than I am! What a great job writing about your camp experience - you must've had a great third grade teacher! :)

Such a great idea to write it from Emma's perspective. Sounds like she had a memorable time and it is a great sign that she wants to go back again next year.

Nicely done Emma, I heard you were a great pleasure. You told me more about camp than my own girl did!!
Sorry they stole all your hot water.
